If, like most people, you can’t wait for summer to be upon us, you’ll be preparing to update your wardrobe for those hot days ahead. Perhaps you’ll be heading off to a music festival or two, or going on a great holiday abroad and are already counting the days. Or you might just decide to enjoy summer at home; but whatever you decide you’ll want to do it in style.

So, besides the weather, what else is going to be hot this summer? One of the most popular trends will be retro print t-shirts. TV shows re-aired from the seventies and eighties on satellite stations, combined with brand new series based in the era, such as 'Life on Mars' and 'Ashes to Ashes' have been responsible for creating a wave of warm nostalgia. In turn that has stirred the creative juices of today’s designers who have collectively decided to innovatively repackage and improve classic printed tees, and of course throw in some ideas of their own.

In the seventies just about every t-shirt carried a picture of one or more musical or popular icons. Indeed, legendary revolutionary Che Guevara featured on many khaki coloured tees and it’s no surprise to find out that he’s re-appeared in abundance this time around.

Other iconic t-shirts of the age included the cover of the Sex Pistols' 'Anarchy in the UK' single and following the re-emergence of the band, who recently played a handful of gigs, expect retro printed tees to follow soon - in even larger numbers and more varied styles than already available.

The seventies and eighties revival has also extended to the big screen. With successful new additions to the ‘Rocky’, ‘Rambo’ and ‘Indiana Jones’ series in recent years, it seems kidults everywhere are enjoying a revival of the decades that brought us the Rubik’s cube and the De Lorean DMC-12, making retro printed tees of blockbusters like ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Star Wars’ some of the coolest items to wear this summer.

During the early eighties printed tees were all about making bold, brash statements, typified by the Frankie Goes to Hollywood inspired ‘Relax’ t-shirts. Today’s tees combine the best of both slogan and cultural icon pictures. So, say how you feel, how you want to be remembered or simply display an undecipherable cryptic message on the latest must have items for your wardrobe this summer – retro printed tees!

They are certainly a bit of a laugh, and the bolder and brighter the statement and colour, the better! Say it loud and spread it across your chest! Or, don’t say anything at all but make the statement with a huge picture of a cultural icon.

When it comes to matching your t-shirts, they go with just about anything; jeans, cut-off jeans, shorts. In fact you name a combination and this summer you’ll likely see it.
