Search engine optimization is a key process after web designing and development process. Even if you have created a website that is pleasant to look at and works wonderfully, until the audience knows about it there is no way it can be an online success.
However, search engine optimization as a process involves much information and practice and this sometimes gives way to certain myths and misconceptions about the search engine parameters.
Here is a list of some critical myths about search engines and their workings:
Myth 1: A Link Exchange Page is great for the website!
Garnering links is one of the top criteria for the optimization process of your website. More the number of links pointing to your website more will it be popular on the internet. And that’ll make it a favorite by Google’s standards. Getting a link from someone often requires a reciprocal links. This has given rise to the creation of ‘links page’ altogether, wherein all the reciprocal links are dumped together.
However, over time Google has come to identify such pages and ignore them altogether. It makes no sense for you to have links from pet food suppliers, packers and movers etc if you yourself have a skin care products’ business. Google makes it a point to ignore such links and no matter their weight age, they are not counted at all.
If at all you need to give out a reciprocal link in exchange to get one from a trusted source, include the link at the footer of the page or place it such in a content so as not to lose relevancy. Google like nothing better than naturally placed links within the website content.
Myth 2: Metatags are the most important!
Meta tags are the codes hidden within the web page that’s visible only to the search engine robots. This was to help search engines decipher the content of your website by spotting the keywords in it and avoid scrolling down the whole of it. However, people soon started loading meta tags with scrupulous or false keywords just to attract huge traffic inflow.
But Google was fast enough to identify the malicious practice and began placing less and less importance to the Meta tags. As for now, the keywords that you insert in the meta tags should be relevant to the content of the web page lest it accounts for spam on search engines.
Myth 3: More the repetition of keywords, better will be the results
Actually! Not true. Excessive use of keywords can actually harm your website.
Search engines are smart enough to realize undue use of keywords within the content. They can easily make out if a page is naturally written or just to stuff keywords within it. And if it turns out to be just for the search engines robot, Google will completely ignore them. Moreover you can also be penalized for adopting malicious means and can be blacklisted from the search engine results.
