New York is often said to be an ideal destination for a weekend away, but in truth there is so much to see and do that even a week isn’t always long enough to make the most of this stunning city.

While there are plenty of sights to take in, the most famous is surely the Statue of Liberty. No visit to New York is complete without booking a trip up the inside of the statue itself. While you can’t go right up to the top – the torch is out of bounds – you can see what the city looks like from the vantage point of the crown atop Liberty’s head.

One of the other most recognised sights in New York has to be the Brooklyn Bridge. While you can obviously drive across the bridge, not everyone realises that it’s also accessible to pedestrians, who have their own walkway to use. You’ll get the best view of the bridge for photographic purposes from either side of the East River below – and it’s definitely a snapshot you’ll want to take home with you.

When you think about which areas to visit in New York you might not automatically think of the Bronx, but it’s an absolute must for those wishing to enjoy the New York Botanical Garden. It was originally inspired by the famous gardens at Kew in London, England, and has now been in existence for over a century. It is world renowned for its Rock Gardens, which bloom around a stunning sequence of small waterfalls, making it hard to believe you are still in the Big Apple.

If you travel to the world famous Times Square directly from the Botanical Garden, you will be seeing two sights of the city that are truly poles apart. The Square is an amazing mix of lights and images that always pulls in the tourists wanting to take photos of one of New York’s most iconic areas. Times Square is also a great place to start any tour of the city’s theatre land, with Broadway just a short stroll away.

Flights to New York are readily available and whatever time of year you plan your trip you are guaranteed that there will be plenty to see and do in the Big Apple. Whatever you like to do you’ll be able to do it here; if you fancy a nice walk along the waterfront then the Brooklyn Heights Promenade is the place to do it, while those itching to spend some money will head straight for Macy’s for the shopping experience of a lifetime.

New York is one of those holiday destinations that you may need to visit with an extra suitcase. You could be bringing back more souvenirs and purchases from your trip down 5th Avenue than you might think.
