The Re-designed 2009 Chevrolet Aveo 5
The Chevrolet Aveo subcompact made its debut in 2004, as Chevrolet’s entry-level car. It was designed by the Korean automaker Daewoo and was available as a four-door sedan or four-door hatchback. The Aveo5 sedan received fresh interior and exterior styling for the 2007 model year. The hatchback remained unchanged with the same styling, but with a new name- the Aveo5.
Chevrolet announced that the 2009 Aveo5 would receive bolder styling, placing it on par with the sedan, at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. The car will be available in three trim levels: Base, LS and LT.
Under the hood, the Aveo5 gets an updated version of the 1.6-liter dual-overhead cam four-cylinder engine. The engine makes 107 horsepower and 106 pound feet of torque, with new variable valve timing. Standard transmission is a five-speed manual; a four-speed automatic is optional. According to Chevrolet, fuel economy will show an increase of up to 8 percent. The Aveo5 with the manual transmission will make 27 mpg (city) and 34 mpg (highway), while the automatic will achieve 24/34 mpg (city/highway).
The 2009 Chevrolet Aveo5 will continue to use the same 2004-2008 platform as designed originally by Daewoo. The car will add 2.2 inches to its overall length; width and height will change only marginally. Inside the cabin, the Aveo5 has comfortable seating for up to five passengers and cargo space of 42.9 cubic feet, with the rear seats folded. The Aveo5 also gets cabin enhancements to cut out engine noise and vibrations, in an attempt to make it less noisy on the inside.
Standard features include 2 front power outlets, AM/FM radio with 4 speakers total, OnStar(R) Telematics, air conditioning (LS); the LT adds cruise control, power accessories, remote keyless entry; fog lights and alloy wheels.
Safety features include front side airbags, passenger airbag cutoff sensor, front seatbelt height adjusters, rear 3-point center seatbelt, driver airbag, passenger airbag, front and rear crumple zones, front and rear 3-point seatbelts, side guard door beams, and front pretensioners with load limiters. LS and LT models are available with antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.
